Potomac Maryland Pool Removal

Every once in a while, a swimming pool removal project comes along that reminds us we haven’t seen it all yet—and this 65,000+ gallon residential swimming pool removal in Potomac, Maryland was one of them.

A typical “large” residential pool holds around 32,000–40,000 gallons. This pool was on an entirely different level. With a volume exceeding 65,000 gallons, it took nearly four hours just to drain the water, compared to the usual one to two hours for most pool removals. To put things in perspective, the pool was nearly the same length as the house, which is clearly visible in the satellite image of the property.

I am including a satellite picture of the property so that people can see the pool is nearly the same length as the house!

Prior to the pool demolition, the backyard in Potomac, MD had ongoing drainage issues, with water collecting and standing in several areas. Through careful planning during the swimming pool removal process, we were able to correct the grading and eliminate the standing water completely, improving drainage away from the home.

As with all of our projects, we secured the proper permits for this job, including a Montgomery County Small Land Disturbance Permit. The pool cavity was backfilled with clean fill soil, compacted using a double-drum vibratory roller, and graded to ensure proper runoff away from the dwelling. Grass seed and straw are standard with our swimming pool demolition and removal services; however, the homeowners opted for sod installation to achieve an instant lawn.

Most importantly, the homeowners were excellent to work with. They did their homework and spoke with multiple swimming pool removal contractors. While we were not the lowest quote, they chose us because of our experience, transparency, and proven process. The job went smoothly from start to finish—exactly how a professional pool removal project should go.
